The Painter
Carole first came to love folklore, mythology and mores
at her Eastern Band Cherokee grandmothers' knees.
The hours she spent with them are among her favorite childhood memories.
She is a self-taught painter whose wide interests have led her to study, first hand,
the Choco and Cuna Indians of Central America and the Ainu of Japan,
as well as Oriental religions and African wildlife.
Her work is generally divided into three themes - the American West,
world socio-political topics and visionary expressions which include the
stunning metaphysical series "Evolution of the Soul".
Spectacular use of color, intimate knowledge of anatomy (both human and
animal) and daring motifs mark her work as unusual, memorable and masterful.
Critics have applauded her work for decades, on both U.S.
coasts, and in Panama and Japan.
She has lived for many years in a secluded Sierra Mountain home and studio.
"When people stop being afraid they regain their compassion" - Carole Estrup

On The Vital Link Between
Criticism And Creativity
"Real creativity ... and real criticism share something that cuts to the heart of why art and literature matter to us: they are dynamic dialogues with what we've done before and what we will make in - and of - the future. As Oscar Wilde puts it: 'Surely, criticism is itself an art ... Criticism is, in fact both creative and independent ... The antithesis between them is entirely arbitrary. Without the critical faculty, there is no artistic creation at all, worthy of the name.'" The Guardian (UK) 09/27/07
